Muktinath — meaning "the place of liberation" — is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists. Located in the Mustang district of Nepal at an altitude of 3,710 metres, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (known here as Sri Muktinath, the God of Liberation). For Hindus, it is one of the 108 Divya Desams and among the 51 Shakti Peethas. For Buddhists, it is Chumig Gyatsa — the Hundred Waters.

Pilgrims believe that bathing under the 108 water spouts and worshipping at the temple washes away sins and brings salvation (Muktinath). Nila Voyages offers dedicated Muktinath Yatra packages with all arrangements handled end to end.

Best Time to Visit

Summer

May–August

The most popular time. Temperatures 15°C–25°C in the daytime. However, July–August brings monsoon rains that can cause flight cancellations to Jomsom.

Autumn

September–November

Excellent weather with clear skies and comfortable temperatures. The best time for combining Muktinath with Upper Mustang. Peak season.

Our Recommendation

May–June and September–October for the best balance of weather and accessibility. Avoid December–March due to extreme cold and flight cancellations.
